Minister of Energy Tinne Van der Straeten puts a crisis contribution of 4.7 billion euros on the table for energy producers

Now that there is clarity about the framework at European level, the dossier in our country also seems ready for acceleration. Van der Straeten says that she is submitting a proposal for a crisis contribution for all energy producers in our country. According to her, European clarity was necessary in order to definitively present her own proposal. “In my proposal I use the same method, but I go beyond Europe,” it sounds. According to Van der Straeten’s colleague Petra De Sutter (Deputy Prime Minister for Green), this is legally permitted: “Europe has made it clear that the member states may set that limit lower, and that they may also extend the term.” Van der Straeten would like to introduce the system with retroactive effect from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2023 – 24 months instead of the 7 months agreed at European level. “If prices fall below 130 euros again, that tax will disappear, so it is a system that extinguishes itself.”
