Velsen-Zuid – The traditional ‘Tour around the Church’ was held in the Village of Oud Velsen for the 54th time on Saturday. Traditionally known as the Oud-Velsen Annual Market, held on the last Saturday of September. The weather was fantastic with a nice sun while the surroundings of the beautiful village were already enveloped in the warm colors of autumn.
All kinds of stalls were set up around the Engelmundus Church, including the church stalls with herring, sausage, pastries, coffee, antiques, curiosities and books. There was sniffing, negotiating, chatting with acquaintances and almost everyone came by bike or on foot. Even the Wheel of Fortune, albeit a mini version, was back after the restrictions that the corona crisis also imposed on this tradition. The poffertjes team did good business. Further on in the village there was a flea market. The stock of gifts and books for children and grandchildren could be replenished and if you got there early there were all kinds of other nice bargains. Beautiful tradition in a historic environment that will probably continue for a while.
