On Thursday evening, Alderman Meijer presented the 2024-2027 Program Budget to the municipal council. The budget not only contains the income and expenditure for 2024, but the Municipal Executive also sets the financial framework for Ede for the next four years. To guide Ede’s growth, more than 42 million euros will be invested in the coming years.
The housing shortage is high. The offer is limited for people looking for a house. Ede wants to build more homes in the coming years. This is complicated due to environmental and nitrogen regulations and shortages on the electricity network. In rural areas, farmers stop their businesses every day and many farmers will stop or adapt their businesses in the coming years. The municipality has reserved money for both rural areas and residential construction. Preparations for housing construction in Kernhem Noord, Nieuw Hoekelum (near Bennekom) on Noordplein (near Ede-Wageningen station) and industrial estates De Stroet IV and Kievitsmeent II have started.
There are various developments in our society that lead to an increasing demand for healthcare. Due to, among other things, an aging population, an increase in chronic diseases, an increase in poverty and performance pressure in education, healthcare needs are increasing in size and complexity. The livelihoods of many people are under pressure. More care, in combination with a persistently tight labor market and high costs, makes the current system unsustainable and unaffordable in the long term. By investing in prevention now, the municipality wants to control future costs. This means that healthcare needs will be viewed less through a medical lens. The municipality wants to discover with partners where it can strengthen and support the community to be resilient and prevent health problems.
The Ede budget totals approximately 450 million euros. Approximately 42 million has been reserved for the next four years to make living and developing in Ede even more pleasant. Some more examples:
- New construction of the Marnix College and further development of ‘inclusive education’;
- Contribution to the renovation of the Cultura theater hall;
- Events such as the Airborne 80 years;
- Strengthening residents’ sense of security;
- Realization of a multifunctional Village House in Otterlo;
- Realizing a bicycle street between Kerkweg and Zanderijweg;
- Insulating houses with a low energy label.
The budget is determined by the mayor and aldermen. The city council will discuss the budget during the council meeting on October 26 and November 9.
