Two new crypto stamps from PostNL with lion and safe

The Hague, October 9, 2023. After the successful introduction of the very first Dutch crypto stamp in 2022, PostNL will issue 2 new crypto stamps tomorrow. The new ‘NL crypto stamp 2’ features a striking lion’s head, and the new ‘NL crypto stamp safe’ features a closed safe door. The new crypto stamps will be available from Tuesday, October 10 at 10 am.

The issuance of the new crypto stamps is the result of collaboration between the national postal companies of the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Austria. Each postal company simultaneously releases its own crypto stamps based on the same design concept and with the same symbol, the lion, but with a different graphic and a different country and value designation.

On Tuesday, October 10, Bob van Ireland, Director of Mail at PostNL, will present a copy of the crypto stamp with the striking lion’s head to the keepers of the lions in ARTIS-Park. This happens at the new lion enclosure that was recently opened.

BlockchainBlockchain is a computer technology that uses distributed databases to secure ownership of cryptocurrency or other digital valuables such as crypto art and crypto stamps. These digital items are also known as NFTs (non-fungible tokens). The digital twin of the Dutch crypto stamps can always be viewed on a computer or smartphone. It is also possible to keep these NFTs in a digital collection or sell them using a digital wallet. PolygonsThe design of the ‘NL crypto stamp 2’ was made by Sandra Smulders from Vormgoed in Gouda. She was also responsible for the design of the Luxembourgish and Austrian versions of this crypto stamp. The head of a lion is central to her design. The lion looks in a different direction for each country. The illustration is made up of polygons as a reference to the name of the cryptocurrency (Polygon) used to store and exchange crypto stamps.
Scenic featuresIn the background of each ‘NL crypto stamp 2 – lion’ is part of a map of Europe on which the country in question (Netherlands, Luxembourg and Austria) lights up blue. For each country, landscape features (water, forests and mountains respectively) are indicated with graphic lines, each with its own color. In the background there is a color gradient from left to right, from blue via green to gray. The lion’s head, the lands and the landscape lines glow brilliantly through the use of a foil layer. MorphingThe ‘NL crypto stamp safe’ makes it possible for the first time to discover a new digital twin (NFT) because behind each safe door a magical symbol of a certain rarity is hidden. There are 3 different safe stamps; a pacifier, a bottle and a rainbow. By combining these symbols with, for example, the digital twin of the ‘NL crypto stamp 2 – lion’, the symbol is transformed into a new motif (a new NFT). This process is called morphing. The combination is one-time and irreversible. AvailabilityThe new crypto stamps are available, while supplies last, from Tuesday, October 10, 10 a.m. via the webshop and via the onchain shop at crypto.post.com. The price of the crypto stamps is € 9.25 each. The validity period is indefinite. More information about crypto stamps and morphing can be found at NLcryptostamp.nl. You can also buy the digital twin of the new Dutch crypto stamps directly via the blockchain. This is done via the onchain shop at crypto.post.com via a browser with a cryptocurrency wallet.
