PROVINCE – In the province of Groningen there has been a significantly smaller increase in the housing stock and the number of new-build homes this year. This is evident from an analysis by VvE manager Parel Beheer, who examined recently published figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) for the first eight months of 2023.
This year, 302 homes per 100,000 inhabitants were added in the province of Groningen, while last year 380 homes were added to the housing stock. The increase in the housing stock in Groningen is still 6 percent above the Dutch average of 285 homes.
New construction homes
In particular, a smaller number of new-build homes added contributes to the lower increase in the housing stock. This year, 296 new-build homes per 100,000 inhabitants were added to the housing stock, compared to 332 new-build homes last year. This means that Groningen is 11.3 percent below the Dutch average of 266 new-build homes added this year.
In addition to new construction, other additions and withdrawals (such as house division, renovations or changes in use) also influence the increase in the housing stock.
Clear differences between provinces
Compared to the number of inhabitants, the increase in housing stock lags behind the most in the provinces of Limburg, Drenthe and Friesland. These are also the provinces where the number of new-build homes added per 100,000 inhabitants is the smallest.
The increase in housing stock compared to the number of inhabitants has increased most in the provinces of Flevoland, South Holland and Zeeland. The number of new-build homes added per 100,000 inhabitants is also the largest in these provinces.
