Dutch employees experience unabated stress and dissatisfaction despite a positive overall work experience. This is evident from research by HR technology company Alight. Nearly two-thirds praise their company, but current workload, finances and mental health are concerns.

Increasing stress and economic uncertainty
Alight’s 2023 International Workforce and Wellbeing Mindset Study shows that while 64 percent of Dutch employees rate their company as ‘good’ or ‘excellent’, many are struggling with increasing stress. These stressors include work-related concerns (51 percent), financial problems (44 percent), and physical health (37 percent).
Other sources of tension include family circumstances (22 percent), world events (30 percent), and economic uncertainty (21 percent). Employee wellbeing remains unchanged over the past year, highlighting the urgent need for greater attention to these issues.
Employer Opportunities:
- Programs and flexibility for mental health (22 percent) and work-life balance (58 percent).
- In the financial field, 21 percent want support with pension savings and budgeting (16 percent).
- Offering personalized benefits would increase employee satisfaction for 45 percent.
Jan Pieter Janssen, vice president of business development at Alight: “Companies must invest in accessible technologies and personal benefits to improve employee well-being and satisfaction. They need to prove that they support their employees and show that they genuinely care about them. This will lead to retaining and attracting talent and boosting productivity.”
