ASUS Introduces ROG Ally Handheld PC With External GPU Support – Gaming – News

I currently have Win11 dual boot with SteamOS on my Steam Deck. Windows 11 on a 7″ screen is doable. It’s not too small and scales well. I also surf it with Firefox. …And I’m almost half a century old and I can still do that without glasses.
The strong point of the Steam Deck are the touch pads with which the mouse can be controlled similar to a trackpad on a laptop. See, the Asus ROG Ally doesn’t have that, so then Win11 becomes “Kilo Uniform Tango” to say the least, because a joystick is no substitute for a mouse or trackpad or – in the case of the Steam Deck – a touchpad.

Edit: touch screen controls are also not great in Win11, because then the UI is really just too small on a 7″ screen (and I probably have too big coal shovels).

It all sounds great with this Asus, better screen with 120Hz, faster GPU, faster CPU… But there’s only one thing REAL very important: THE PRICE!. If the price of this handheld isn’t in the $500 to $700 range – and IMHO it’s impossible with these specs – it’s just going to be the next Aya Neo/GPD niche product.

I would trade in my Steam Deck for an Asus ROG Ally if:
– Same or better battery time with the same or better performance.
– Price like the Steam Deck or at least close.
– When the RoG Ally gets touch pads.
