AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost has overseen the development of many F1 talents over the years, some of whom became world champions – Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen – while others enjoyed successful careers such as Carlos Sainz and Daniel Ricciardo. CEO Peter Bayer praised the Austrian for the way he works with drivers, saying: “I think Franz is a genius when it comes to drivers and understanding what they are mentally and physically capable of. Drivers are on their toes when it comes to physical preparation.

Lots of support
“But we also have to ensure that when they make the transition from Formula 2 to Formula 1, they need a lot of support. In Formula 1 they need support and a lot of preparation, physically, mentally, driving in the simulator, it is all very, very important” said Franz Tost in a message from GrandPrix247.
To invest
“Knowledge from previous car tests and experiences are a very important element, so you have to invest in them, otherwise they would never be able to get into Formula 1. And this investment can be quite a challenge for them,” Bayer said. AlphaTauri had confirmed Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo for the 2024 F1 season as the latter is still recovering from a broken hand after a crash during practice at the Dutch Grand Prix.
Liam Lawson replaces Daniel Ricciardo, who is expected to return at the upcoming race in Austin if the team’s plan comes to fruition.
