The special counsel who brought the case against Alec Baldwin has resigned. Andrea Reeb sued the actor for the fatal shooting incident on the film’s set Peace, but announced her departure on Tuesday. Baldwin’s lawyers wanted Reeb removed from the case and therefore filed a motion.
In addition to being a lawyer, Reeb is also a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives. Baldwin’s lawyers therefore pointed to the constitution, which states that powers must remain separate.
According to them, Reeb should be removed from the case because a member of the legislature is not also allowed to perform duties that fall under the judiciary.
“The best way for me to bring justice to this case is to step down so that the focus is on the evidence and the facts, which clearly show that disregard for safety protocols led to the death of Halyna Hutchins,” Reeb wrote in a statement. declaration. “I will not allow doubts about my work as a legislator and prosecutor to overshadow the real problem.”
It is not yet known who will replace Reeb as prosecutor.
Baldwin, 64, was officially charged in New Mexico at the end of January. So was Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for the guns on the film’s set. Baldwin denied in late February that he is guilty in the case.
