The City of Bruges and the Bruges Police are investing in the purchase of new speed indication signs. “Speed information signs have a positive effect on road safety,” says Mayor Dirk De fauw.
The signs indicate the speed of oncoming traffic. If the maximum permitted speed is exceeded, these signs provide a clear visual signal to drivers. “We want to sensitize drivers to adhere to the maximum speed on the road,” explains the mayor of Bruges.
Temporary
A number of speed indication signs always remain in the same place, on the main access roads at the entrance to the built-up area. This is a structural sensitization measure. In addition, the police temporarily (two to three weeks) place speed signs in a specific street.
“The intention here is to create a change in mentality and make drivers aware of the applicable speed standard. If we determine that awareness does not work, additional repressive speed checks will be carried out,” said Mayor Dirk De fauw.
