Today, summary proceedings are pending at the Maastricht court of the Tax Authorities against the self-proclaimed lawyer Youri Plate (46). The AD reports this. Plate is a driving force behind the growing movement of autonomous or sovereign people who refuse to pay taxes, fines and sometimes rent.
This summer, Plate already received a summons from the Tax Authorities for summary proceedings. The demand is that he must stop his advice, his letters and his videos, under penalty of a penalty of 5,000 euros per day. “The Tax Authorities are tired of thousands of letters from autonomous people who refuse to pay,” the newspaper writes.
Bailiffs are increasingly confronted with people who refuse to pay taxes, fines or rent because they do not recognize the Dutch government. They call themselves autonomists or sovereigns. This concerns thousands of people in the Netherlands. In recent years, the Tax Authorities have received more than nine thousand letters from self-employed persons.
Plate is one of the most notable figures in this movement and gained some fame as an anti-government activist during the corona pandemic. During the pandemic, the Limburger founded the Legal Office Plate even though he has no legal background. With the office he helps autonomous people for a fee with writing letters to the Tax Authorities or bailiffs.
A few months ago the AD wrote about another resource for autonomous people, the website Autonoomtotaal.nl. This site also supports tax refusers with tips and advice.
