The whole of the Netherlands reads in the Amstelland Library

Amstelland Library puts loyal members and visitors in the spotlight during Nederland Leest by gifting them the book Sonny Boy by Annejet van der Zijl. The activities in the libraries around Heel Nederland Leest encourage meetings and conversations among visitors.

The whole of the Netherlands Reads

The largest annual national reading campaigns in which all branches of the Amstelland Library participate. From November 1 to 30, the whole of the Netherlands will read the same book and discuss it with each other. The theme of Nederland Leest this year is ‘Reading a good book together’.

This year in November during Heel Nederland Leest, members and visitors can pick up the book Sonny Boy by Annejet van der Zijl for free from the library. This is possible during opening hours and while supplies last. An impressive story about 19-year-old Surinamese Waldemar and 40-year-old Dutch Rika, their forbidden love and the outbreak of the Second World War. This biography with a historical touch has several themes that are still current. Think of living in a country where you are not at home, but also finding (controversial) love and harm, slavery and resilience in the most difficult periods.

Activities

The theme of reading a good book together is ideal for extensive discussion in the library. Various activities are organized around reading together. This includes reading clubs and lectures on various subjects, reading from Sonny Boy at Longevity Learning and the special edition of Literary Café 102 with Sholeh Rezazadeh including Iranian tea and Iranian delicacies. In short: the library is the heart of the campaign and the ideal place to come together.

Heel Nederland Leest is a campaign by the CPNB foundation and the Library to promote reading books with a different theme every year.
