Every Sunday – until supplies last – Nieuws030 publishes a photo of a beautiful or special public Utrecht bookcase.
The bookcase on the wall in front of the house Pieter Saenredamstraat 46 I can’t open it. I can turn the knob at the bottom center, but it doesn’t work. Never mind; I don’t necessarily have to go in. It wasn’t until I was in bed at night that I realized that I could perhaps have just lifted the door by the knob. That I don’t think of that at that moment….
I notice that the other books include ‘The Hague Years’, Ruud Lubbers’ political memoirs written by Theo Brinkel from 2020. The CDA member Lubbers was Prime Minister between 1982 and 1994. Now that Mark Rutte has announced that he is leaving politics, I wonder how long it will take before his political memoirs are in bookstores.
In ‘A romance’, a book by Dirk Ayelt Kooiman from 1973, the main character meets a former study friend, his wife and the sister of that study friend after six years. A picnic in nature gets completely out of hand and ends in a gigantic make-out session. This is a traumatic experience for all four that each has processed in his or her own way or not at all.
Some other books are: Carrie Slee: Sadness with Mayonnaise (2005); Joris Luyendijk: This Can’t Be True (2015); Jessica Durlacher: Emoticon (2004); Heleen van Royen: The happy housewife (2000); Maarten ‘t Hart: The course can be changed six times (1984), Adriaan Jaeggi: The toll of fame (1995) and ‘My little brains’ by Johnny van Doorn (1987).
There are also two of the four Virgilius youth novels by Paul Biegel in the cabinet: ‘Virgilius van Tuil’ (1978) and ‘Virgilius van Tuil and the uncle from Sweden’ (1980). That Virgil is a fat, curious but stubborn dwarf who lives on the heath with a hundred other dwarfs. He is not afraid of anything and loves adventure. A nice children’s book, then.
